United Out to Beat the Hammers Again
Cristiano Ronaldo is back at Old Trafford and has already scored three times in two games. This weekend sees current Premier League leaders Manchester United travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United. The Hammers are former league leaders but start this weekend in eigth position.
Manchester United are top of the table going into the weekend but unlikely to be in that position when this game begins on Sunday. They have won three of their four league games but haven't always been that impressive. Their season began with a Portuguese midfielder scoring a hat-trick. That helped them beat Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford but little did we know another Portuguese player was on his way to the club.
United then had to come from behind to get a 1-1 draw at Southampton. Mason Greenwood scored his second goal of the season and is one of many candidates for an anytime goalscorer bet. United may be unbeaten in their last 28 away Premier League matches but 10 of those have ended in a draw. If they do want to win the title, they can't afford too many away draws.
Greenwood was on target again as United won 1-0 at Wolves and soon after the big news came. Ronaldo was back and he began with two goals in a 4-1 home win over Newcastle United. Two of their goals came in the last ten minutes and it wasn't always the most impressive of performances. That was the case in midweek when they lost 2-1 away to Young Boys in the Champions League, despite another goal from Ronaldo. It goes without saying that an anytime goalscorer bet on him has to be made.
12 of their last 13 competitive games have seen both teams score. A bet on that happening in this game is highly recommended. Four of the last six away Premier League games played by United have had over 2.5 goals scored. That stat has come up in two of the last three league visits to West Ham.
The Hammers will get to know Manchester United well over the next week. Following this Premier League clash, they travel to Old Trafford for an EFL Cup third round tie. You can bet your bottom dollar that there will be plenty of team changes made for that match. West Ham are eighth in the table but still unbeaten and will go above their opponents if winning this match.
Antonio Loss Could be Hammer Blow
West Ham lost all three games they played against Manchester United last season. Two league defeats and a 1-0 loss at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. They have had success in the recent past and in 2018 and 2019 beat Manchester United at home in the Premier League. Can they get another victory?
The loss of Mikhail Antonio is a blow for the Hammers. He'd scored four league goals this season but was sent off at Southampton last weekend. He'd helped West Ham get their season off to a good start with a 4-2 win at Newcastle (after trailing twice) and a 4-1 home league victory over Leicester City.
It's not gone too well since then though. They had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 home draw with Crystal Palace and then could only draw 0-0 at Southampton. Thursday saw them back in the Europa League and they won 2-0 at Dinamo Zagreb. Antonio (not banned for European competition) and Rice scored their goals.
Only Manchester City had a better home record than West Ham in last season' Premier League. Five of their last seven Premier League games have seen both teams score. Nine of the last 12 home Premier League games have had over 2.5 goals scored and both stats look likely winners this weekend. A bet on an away win also looks one that can be successful.
