MATCH PREVIEW

Title Contenders Once More

Liverpool's defence of their Premier League title last season was a disappointing one. They have started the new campaign with two solid performances and even won a match at Anfield. Norwich and Burnley were beaten but now Liverpool face a much tougher game as they host Chelsea, who have also won both of their Premier League games this season.

Virgil van Dijk has made his return from injury. His long absence from the first team was the main reason Liverpool saw their form collapse. Now he's fit again and Liverpool come into this game having kept two Premier League clean sheets. Not bad considering they are without Andy Robertson.

Another absentee was Diogo Jota who made a bright start after being signed from Wolves. He scored nine goals in 19 Premier League games last season. Back from injury, he's scored two in two this season and has to be considered for an anytime goalscorer bet. The same goes for former Chelsea player Mo Salah (why do Chelsea let so many good players leave?) and Sadio Mane.

Home form was a major problem for Liverpool last season. Even a clairvoyant wouldn't have been able to predict a run of six home league losses in a row with only one goal (a penalty) scored. Liverpool did finally get back on track though and have won four of the last five home Premier League games.

Liverpool lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea last season but had won their last four Premier League clashes before that defeat. 11 of the last 16 games between these two sides have seen both teams get on the scoresheet. Considering the attacking talent on show this weekend, a bet on that market looks advisable.

Chelsea in Top Form Already

Chelsea are the champions of Europe and the Europa Super Cup holders. However, not since 2017 have they been champions of England and only twice in the last 11 Premier League seasons. This season has got off to an impressive start with a 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace was followed by an even better 2-0 victory at Arsenal last Sunday.

The second of their wins saw the return of Romelu Lukaku and he scored on his second debut for the club. He has to be on your shortlist for an anytime goalscorer bet. Besides he used to play for Everton, so scoring against Liverpool will put a big smile on his face. Chelsea have scored in nine of their last ten with only Leeds United keeping a clean sheet against them.

This is a test for both clubs as to how much they progressed in recent months. Liverpool again look to be title challengers but how will their defence hold out against a team as strong up front as Chelsea. For the Blues, they have already shown what a threat they can be this season. Will there be another big signing before the transfer window closes. A bet on a draw with both teams scoring looks a good one to make.
