United Looking for First Home League Win
The season is still relatively new but neither Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur want to lose this game. Both sides have already had one league loss and a second is likely to see the loser fall as much as nine points behind the league leaders.
Manchester United started the season a game late due to their European exploits. When they did, they made a disastrous start losing 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace. Not the ideal start for a team that had finished last season so strongly, finishing in third place.
They got their first league win of the season away at Brighton and Hove Albion. Again, they looked to have defensive problems only beating the Seagulls 3-2. Five goals conceded in two games, a lapse back to the problems they had in the first part of last season. Later on, they went on a run of two goals conceded in eight league games, they need to rediscover that form.
Midweek saw them go to Brighton again and come home with a 3-0 EFL Cup victory. Sadly, they can't play Albion in every game and now host Tottenham. Home form was good for most of last season but the Palace loss means they have no wins in their last three league games played at Old Trafford. Both teams have scored in the last four league fixtures, a bet that looks well worth making for this match.
Tottenham Searching for Consistency
Three league games have produced a win, a draw and a loss for Tottenham. It's been a busy time for them and just three days before this fixture, they have a Europa League play-off round to play. Jose Mourinho has stressed the importance of European football to his club (particularly the accountants) so a strong side is likely to be played in that game.
This trip to Old Trafford will be their fourth game in eight days but it's one they won't want to lose. They already trail the league leaders by five points, seeing that stretch to eight would be a worry for Mourinho. Only in their 5-2 win at Southampton have they looked convincing. One point from home games against Everton and Newcastle United isn't the kind of start that the club were looking for.
Away form has been a major concern for Tottenham in recent Premier League seasons. They come into this game with only three wins in their last 11 away league fixtures. Seven of their last eight have seen both teams score, so that bet is looking even more attractive. Tottenham have only won one of their last six away games at Old Trafford. Mourinho will tell you all about that one as he was in charge of United at the time.
This is a fascinating game with both sides having strikers that can win the game for their side. Tottenham's inconsistency, especially on their travels, suggest a home win with over 2.5 goals scored looks a good bet to make.
