Recovery Job for City
After the disappointment of losing their Premier League title last season, Manchester City are already struggling this term. They have just four points from their first three league games leaving them 14th in the table and now face a resurgent Arsenal side who are in fourth.
This is the Saturday teatime game and one that City really need to win. They will start the game at least nine points behind the league leaders. However, a win for Everton over Liverpool would extend the gap to 12 points with two games in hand.
Their season began well with a 3-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Since then though, EFL Cup aside, it's been a poor start for City. Their first home league game of the season ended in a shock 5-2 home loss to Leicester City. Then they travelled to newly-promoted Leeds United and returned home with a 1-1 draw. All the more disappointing as they led 1-0 in that game.
The last three seasons have seen City compile ten points from their first four games. Seven wouldn't be a bad total if they can win this game. Four of five would be a bit of a disaster though. They are without Aguero and Jesus up front and of course sold Sane during the summer. There's still enough players to be trusted to score goals though. Raheem Sterling has already shown some good form in the EFL Cup, so a bet on him to score in this match could well pay a dividend.
Another Tough Test for the Gunners
Arsenal may be fourth in the table but there are still serious questions to be asked about them. Nine points have been earned from their first four games. Like their opponents, they have also made it through to the last eight of the EFL Cup. They've also won the Community Shield, something they might not be able to do so in the future! The big question remains though, can Arsenal earn points against the very top sides in the Premier League, especially away from the Emirates?
Their three league wins have come against Fulham, West Ham United and Sheffield United, the last two at home. To be honest, Arsenal would expect to get maximum points against those three teams. Their other match was a 3-1 away defeat at Anfield. Sadly for Arsenal fans, that's the kind of result they are used to getting. To get back into the top four, they have to get better results on their travels.
The Etihad isn't a happy hunting ground for the Gunners. Each of their last five league visits has seen them concede at least two goals. Arsenal have only won three of their last 13 away league games, that won't see them getting anywhere near the Champions League. They did at least beat City in the FA Cup last season, though on neutral territory at Wembley. That ended a run of seven straight losses to City.
A bet on both teams to score looks a good one to make for this fixture. City continually score lots of goals at home but they are yet to keep a league clean sheet this season. Arsenal have scored in all their league matches but conceded in the last three. If West Ham and Sheffield United can score against them, surely City can. City need to bounce back from that loss to Leicester, the chances are they will.
A bet on over 2.5 goals being scored should also be a winner in this crazy season. Since 2015, only twice has that stat not come up in a game between these two clubs.
