A Must Win Game for Both Clubs
This game between Fulham and West Bromwich Albion takes place on November 2. It's still early in the season but this is the kind of game both clubs have to win. That's something neither club has managed to achieve in the Premier League this season.
That's particularly true for Fulham who begin the weekend fixtures bottom of the Premier League. The Londoners have just one point from six games, a 1-1 draw at Sheffield United (also in the bottom three). Just five goals have been scored and 14 conceded. That gives them the joint worst defensive record in the Premier League with their opponents in this game and a certain team called Liverpool!
Home form hasn't gone well so far for the Cottagers. All three games have been lost with just one goal scored. Their first two games both ended in 3-0 defeats by Arsenal and Aston Villa. They finally got on the scoresheet in a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace and that was a 95th minute consolation goal.
With upcoming games against West Ham, Everton, Leicester City, Manchester City and Liverpool, Fulham need points from this game. Failure to do so may well see them rooted to the bottom by mid-December. However, a win in this game would take them above West Bromwich Albion and do wonders for their confidence.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has only scored two league goals this season. They both came in the 4-3 loss at Leeds United back in September. He did score for Serbia against Turkey in the Nations League but league goals have to come if Fulham are to have any chance of survival. A bet on him scoring against West Brom may well be a winner though.
Albion Becoming Draw Experts
Just like their opponents, West Bromwich Albion are still searching for their first win since promotion. At least they have three draws though, but they need to start winning matches. They begin the weekend in 17th place, two points above the relegation zone, though Burnley have a game in hand. If they ended the season in that position, they would be delighted.
That wasn't how they were feeling after the first three league games of the season. 11 goals conceded, six of them at home showed the tough fight ahead. Frustration was probably their main feeling after giving away a 3-0 home lead over Chelsea and just earning a point.
Since those three games though, Albion have only conceded three goals in as many matches. Two of those came in their loss at Southampton. That's the last game they've lost though. A goalless draw at Burnley was followed by a 1-1 stalemate at Brighton. It could have been their first win but for a Livermore own goal.
At least the heavy defeats have been cut out, now all they need to do is start winning matches. Only one of their last 12 competitive fixtures has been won and that was a home EFL Cup win over Harrogate Town. There's just a single win over Sheffield Wednesday in their last eight league and cup games.
Their last three league games have all had under 2.5 goals scored in them. A bet on that happening in this game could well be a winning one. If any goals are scored, they could well be in the second half. Between them, these two clubs have already conceded 18 second half league goals compared to ten in the first half.
