MATCH PREVIEW
Crisis Time for Cottagers
A 1-0 home defeat by Chelsea on Saturday has left Fulham four points from safety. Now comes a crucial time for the Cottagers as they host Manchester United on Wednesday. They need points from their upcoming games or it may well be Championship football for them again next season.
There has been some optimism at Craven Cottage of late but they just can't win games. The weekend loss now means they have gone seven league games without a win. There have been five draws but they need more than that if they want to avoid relegation.
Some goals would be helpful too. Fulham have only netted on three occasions in their last seven league fixtures. Defensively they may have improved, but when barely scoring, just letting in one goal can stop you getting crucial wins.
Fulham have just one win in their last ten league games and it's hard to see them getting one against Manchester United. After this game, they travel to Brighton and West Brom, those are matches they just have to get wins from. But where are the goals going to come from?
Home form has only seen them win one league game, a 2-0 victory over West Brom. Only six points have been earned and the same number of goal scored. Each of their last three home league games has seen Fulham fail to score with five of the last six having under 2.5 goals scored.
United to Continue Good Run
A draw at Anfield on Sunday kept Manchester United at the top of the Premier League. They might start this game in third if both Leicester and Manchester City can win their earlier games. Whatever the results of those matches, United can go into the weekend in top spot after a win at Craven Cottage.
The draw on Sunday may not have seen United in the most adventurous of form. However, a point at Anfield is never one to be upset about, so get it however you can. Not losing the game was the most important task to show Liverpool that United really are title challengers.
The draw took their unbeaten league run to 12 league games. Their last league defeat was at home to Arsenal in November. Since then, nine have been won and three drawn. A form guide for the last ten league games has them a point clear at the top. That's compared to Fulham's 15th with just one win.
It's their away form that has been the star of the show this season with seven wins and two draws. That's stretched their unbeaten away league run to 16. They had scored at least twice in 11 straight away league games before a 1-0 win at Burnley and the goalless draw at Anfield.
At least their away defensive record has improved. They'd conceded in seven away games in a row before the two recent clean sheets. Up against a Fulham side struggling for form, a win to nil for United looks a good bet to make for this game.
