Forest Look to Kick Start Season
At one point last season, it looked as if Nottingham Forest were going to be in the Championship play-offs. Then it all went wrong in the second half of their final league game and they missed out. They host Cardiff City, down in 23rd place, looking to get their first league win of the season.
The hangover from that disaster seems to have spilled over into the 2020/21 season. Firstly, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup, losing 1-0 away to Barnsley in the first round. Their fans must hate the Yorkshire club who also beat them in their penultimate league game of last season.
That disappointment was followed by an opening day defeat in the Championship, going down 2-0 away at QPR. Again, their weakness in the second half of matches was shown. The two conceded in that game made it seven in the last four played. Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi who knowing what Forest can be like is probably lucky to still be in charge.wasn't at all happy about the chances hs side missed. Speaking after the game, he said: "We were not clever and not good enough to make the difference and score."
Not a great situation for Forest to find themselves in so early in the new season. Forest have now gone eight league and cup games without a win, losing the last four in a row. Forest have to turn this around and fast if they want to finally escape the Championship and return to the Premier League.
Home form has been patchy with only three wins in their last ten league fixtures. Four of the last six have seen over 2.5 goals scored in them. If Forest continue to struggle at the back but their forwards finally take their chances, a bet on that market could well be a winning one.
Bluebirds Struggling as Well
Cardiff City lost to Fulham in the play-offs last season and have also made a slow start to the season. Their opening league game saw them concede two first-half goals and lose 2-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday. That sees them in 21st place, it'd be 22nd of course if Wednesday didn't have that 12 points deduction.
Just like their opponents, City are also out of the EFL Cup. They suffered a surprise 3-0 away loss at League One Northampton. There have been plenty of defensive errors in their two games so far. They need to be stamped out but scoring a goal would be rather handy.
Manager Neil Harris, is on the search for a new striker. Kieffer Moore and Sheyi Ojo have already been added to the squad but more is needed if they want to challenge for promotion. Key players such as Danny Ward, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Albert Adomah (now back at Forest after a loan spell) have all been lost.
Away form for Cardiff ended well last season with five wins from the last six played. That included winning at Fulham in the play-off semi-final but they'd already lost the home leg 2-0. Both teams scored in three of their last five away league games. That stat could well come up again if these two sides continue to defend as they have this season.
