Can City Close the Gap to Three Points?
It's undoubtedly the biggest Premier League of the season as Liverpool host Manchester City on Sunday November 10. Liverpool begin the weekend six points clear of the defending champions and would love to go nine clear of them.
The weekend saw both teams trailing at one stage. However, the shocks weren't to come as both Liverpool and Manchester City ran out 2-1 winners. Now they face off at the weekend and the importance of this match cannot be stressed high enough. Liverpool lost out by just a point last season and the finger can be pointed at their results against City. Liverpool drew at home to them and lost away (their last Premier League loss) to them, that's why they aren't champions.
The past few weeks haven't seen Liverpool at their best. Just as great teams do, they still grind out the results. Late goals were needed to get three points against both Leicester City and Aston Villa and salvage a point at Old Trafford. Liverpool have now gone 45 home Premier League games without a defeat. Home clean sheets are becoming a rarity though for them. The last five home games have all seen a Liverpool win with both teams scoring bet be a winner.
City due a Win at Anfield
Anfield has not been a happy hunting ground for Manchester City. They last won a league game there in 2003 but could do with getting a victory on Sunday. Pep Guardiola's main aim will be to return home on Sunday without the gap between the two sides having lengthened. Losing is the worst nightmare, winning is the dream.
It's been an in and out season for Manchester City. At times they have looked their masterful selves with high-scoring wins. Then they go and lose away to Norwich City and get beaten at home by Wolverhampton Wanderers. Results such as those are the reason that City are six points behind Liverpool going into this game.
Five away league games this season have produced four wins and that loss at Carrow Road. 15 goals have been scored with at least two in each match. Whether they can do that at Anfield remains to be seen. Four of their last visits to Anfield have seen them failed to score. Just what happens to the City goal machine when playing at this ground?
This isn't going to be a weekend where Guardiola tinkers with his squad. The very best available line-up will be fielded for this game. David Silva is a doubt for this game and City would miss his brilliance in midfield.
The title won't be won this weekend even if Liverpool were to win this match. The Reds will want to win though, knowing that the months ahead are ones full of fixtures for them. They have turned Anfield into a fortress and proved in their last two league games that they can come from behind to win. A bet on both teams to score looks a great bet to make in this game.
