Battle for the Bragging Rights
The midlands derby between Nottingham Forest and Derby County is always an important one. Usually it is Derby who are in ascendancy but not on this occasion. Forest are ten places above their opponents but this is an inrcredibly tight division. Only four points separate the two clubs.
Nottingham Forest begin this game in fifth place in the Championship. They are only three points behind the second automatic promotion spot and have a game in hand. Current form has been a slight concern though with only two wins coming from the last five league matches. They lost at Wigan Athletic and then at home to Hull City. The weekend saw them back in winning ways as they went to Luton Town and won 2-1.
Forest have lost two home league games this season. They lost to West Brom (currently top of the table) in their opening fixture. Then they went four games unbeaten before the loss to Hull. Forest have kept five clean sheets in their last eight home league matches. Scoring isn't a problem for them at all. They have found the back of the net in each of their last 18 league games played at the City Ground. Overall, the only time they have failed to score in the Championship in their last 17 games was in the 1-0 loss at Wigan.
Derby Searching for Consistency
Derby County are 15th in the table but that's just four points adrift of the final promotion play-off position. They are nine points above the relegation zone so no immediate worries there. There might be if their inconsistency continues because Derby are yet to win two consecutive league games this season. They have only managed to do that once all year, the last time being in April when pushing for promotion. That's the only time it has happened in 2019.
The departure of both Frank Lampard and Mason Mount has hit them of course. They didn't make a great start to the season with just one win in their first eight league games. That came at Huddersfield Town who were struggling badly at the time. Derby weren't losing many games though. Of those eight league matches, just two of them were lost as they were defeated by Bristol City at home and Brentford away.
There has been improvement with only two more losses in their last nine Championship matches. Four games have been won and just two lost. Both those defeats were on their travels and that's where Derby have most problems. Since the win at Huddersfield in August, they have earned just three points from six away games, all from draws. In their last 17 away games in this league, only once at Bristol City in April have they failed to concede a goal.
Forest will take heart from Derby's inability to win two games in a row. You see, County won last week so they will have to break that trend to get three points. The home side will be confident of getting on the scoresheet against a struggling Derby defence. A home win looks the most likely result here.
