MATCH PREVIEW

Five Up for Fulham?

Fulham are third in the Championship but five points behind the two automatic promotion play-off positions. Their last four league games have all been won and now they aim to make that five. The Londoners host fifth placed Bristol City who will draw level on points with Fulham if winning at Craven Cottage.

It's a tough fixture list for Fulham at present. Last Friday's win at Swansea was the first of five games in a row against teams currently in the top eight, with three being against sides in the top six. Fulham are coping well though as they bid to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Fulham have won six of their ten home league games this season. Only Preston, with seven, have won more than the London side.  The last two home league fixtures have both been won with a 3-0 win over Derby preceded by a come-from-behind win over QPR.  Seven of their ten home games have seen them score at least twice. That's an impressive record that can be extended to 18 of the last 23 played since returning to the Championship.  The surprise 3-0 home loss to Hull City is the only time they have failed to score at home in the past couple of seasons.

It's a key period for Fulham because there is that five point gap to the top two of West Brom and Leeds (who Fulham host on the 21st).  Continuing their good run can keep them in contention for automatic promotion. A drop in form could see them just having to concentrate on securing a play-off position.

City Struggling against Top Sides

The same applies to their opponents in this game. Bristol City are fifth but eight points behind the top two. In a tight division, they are only seven points ahead of 16th placed QPR. City don't have the consistency that Fulham have at present. Their last three games have only produced four points and only eight from the last five. They spent a fair few months in the promotion play-off places last season but faded in the final weeks of the season.

They have had a tough fixture list though with recent games against Nottingham Forest and West Brom. The home game with Forest was drawn 0-0 but they went down 4-1 at West Brom. Faced with slightly easier opposition at the weekend, City hammered Huddersfield Town 5-2 at home scoring four goals in the first half.

The chances of this clash with Fulham being a low-scoring affair look slim. Both sides have scored 31 league goals but City struggle at the back. They have conceded 27 league goals this season, only eight clubs in the Championship have a worst defensive record. 17 of those goals have been conceded in away matches.

Away form for the Robins is a bit inconsistent. They have won four on the road but only one since September 14. The last six have only seen them win away at Cardiff City with defeats at Luton and West Brom.  Four of those six games have seen them concede at least twice. They only have  one clean sheet in their last 14 away league matches.

Fulham are in the better form and City don't always do well against the top sides. A bet on Fulham to win with both teams scoring looks a profitable bet as does over 2.5 goals.
